Profile details (name, date of birth, gender, city, country, postcode, About you, photos), your location (see below), identity-verification results, the places and messages you post, and basic app usage.
Placesy asks for permission to use your device location the first time you sign in, and refreshes it when you open the app. We store only your latest position — not a history of where you have been — and we use it to measure how far away places and people are, and to decide what appears within your chosen radius. This is a precise GPS position, not a postcode-level estimate, so distances are accurate. You can refuse or withdraw the permission at any time in your device settings; we then fall back to the approximate location derived from the postcode on your profile, and the app keeps working. Other users never see your coordinates — only the distance to a place and the city and area you have chosen to show.
To run the service — show you places and people nearby, match interests, enable chat and video calls, keep the community safe, and process payments.
We use a small number of specialist providers to run Placesy, each handling only what its function needs and none of them permitted to use your data for their own purposes: cloud hosting, database and file storage; identity verification; automated content moderation; payment and subscription processing (alongside the Apple App Store and Google Play); video calling; and push notification delivery. Identity verification is worth singling out: your ID document and selfie are handled by a specialist verification provider and are not stored by Placesy — we receive only the result and the checks it passed. If you would like the names of the specific companies we use, ask us at the address below and we will tell you.
Some of these providers process data outside the UK and EEA, including in the United States. Where that happens we rely on the safeguards the law requires for international transfers, such as UK/EU standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision covering the destination country.
You can edit your profile, and delete your account at any time from Settings — this removes your profile, posts, chats and related data. Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, or export your data; contact us to exercise them.
We keep data while your account is active and delete it when you delete your account, except where the law requires us to keep records. We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, but no system is perfectly secure.
We may update this policy and will make the current version available in the app. Privacy questions or requests: support@placesy.app
